Levuka Family Day .
Held on 8th January,2023.
After care & Family Support Therapy.
Religiously on the first Sunday of every month Levuka opens its doors to a fun filled family day and after care session therapy program to its former in patients residents who finished their 90 days program.
After care therapy.
At exactly 12 noon , “the old timers” are usual seated in front of the hall, these are former inpatient residents and recovering substance abuse recovering addicts. They return to Levuka religiously and voluntarily mostly to:
- Encourage the current inpatient residents that is is possible out there to stay sober and clean of substance abuse.
- To get therapy themselves with their former counselors on life skills.
- Open session for questions and answers.
The recovering substance abuse addicts ,current residents and counselors have an open session discussions where they exchange experiences and challengers they face day to day. The recovering on to avoid addicts give their honest opinions on life challenges they face, the temptations, and solutions how they avoid relapse . Most important being how to relate with their family members again , the current residents ask questions while their counselors moderate the
whole session.
At 1. pm the sessions ends with a serenity prayers and the family day begins.
Family Day.
By 1.pm eager family members had already arrived ,and picked a spot to sit on the lush green well kept grounds of Levuka, a family picnic it is ,the best delicacies prepared for their loved ones ,tears of joy flow freely ,smiles hugs and kisses are exchanged in plenty, mother father brother sister child, all eager to meet their loved one once again to check on the progress of their treatment , the residents on the hand eager to see their loved ones and impress them with their sobriety progress.
Family Support therapy Session.
This session is usually moderated by Levuka counselors, while the residents patients being the main players ,from the Mc to the preachers, to lead the singers all done by the residents substance abuse addicts themselves, this is to the amazement of the family present members.
The most important session begins when Levuka counselors engage the present family members who have also gone through trauma seeing their loved one with addiction dependency troubles, this helps the family members to heal also, through open questions and answer session , they receive counseling on way forward after the former addicts are discharged, how to handle them, how to help them be productive members of society again and most important the addicts are also counseled on how to regain their family trust again. The session ends with a word of prayer lead by one of the parent. The parent give their loved ones fruits, toiletries and clothes while saying their good byes till the next visiting day, first Sunday of every Month.
